             Let’s bless the City of Flagstaff and God while we care for his creation by cleaning trash discarded by others. Our next Adopt-An-Avenue event will be Saturday, October 9th. We will meet at the First        Southern Baptist Church parking lot on the southeast corner of San Francisco and Columbus at 9:00 a.m.  Our pickup area is only about a half mile along both sides of San Francisco Street between Columbus and Forest.  If you would like to participate, please contact Joan Stoner at 853-9827 or call the church office at 699-2715.

Our Lord Jesus taught by precept and example that the lifestyle of his followers involved loving, humble service to one another.  After washing the feet of his disciples (John 13:1-17) he said, "A new command I give to you:  Love one another.  As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this all men will know you are my disciples, if you love one another." (verses 34-35)  A truly great church is a community of faith which has discovered the art and nobility of unselfish living by living out a lifestyle of love in serving one another.  A "minister" is one who serves.  All baptized Christians are ministers in their own right so we will explore some opportunities for ministry or service at our Ministry Fair.

]]> 2010-09-02T00:00:00-05:00 CONSECRATION SUNDAY September 26 http://www.cor-pca.org/n/consecration_sunday_september_26.html http://www.cor-pca.org/n/consecration_sunday_september_26.html  CONSECRATION SUNDAY  is this month on Sunday, September 26th.  In worship, members and friends of Church of the Resurrection are encouraged to consecrate their estimates of giving for the coming ministry year of 2011.  After our worship service, we'll gather for a celebration luncheon.  We're not raising money to support a budget.  Instead, we are considering the biblical principles of financial stewardship and then asking God, "What do You want me to give to Your work through Church of the Resurrection?"  Our obedience and generous giving will enable the COR ministry to thrive as well as enable our people to experience the joy of giving.

. This special event includes a lunch immediately following the worship service at 11:30 a.m. Be sure to be there.

COR Supporting Gerry & Jessica Wheaton in Costa Rica

             Recently our Steering Committee voted to help support with prayer and financial help the new Mission of Gerry and Jessica Wheaton teaching the New Testament at a strategic seminary in the interior of Costa Rica.  Gerry and Jessica hale from the Boston area, and Gerry earned his Ph.D. in New Testament in Scotland.  The Wheaton's have five sons and the whole family is looking forward to their move to Costa Rica this fall.  Gerry is planning a trip to Arizona and is looking forward to meeting with our people.  The Wheaton’s express their heartfelt gratitude for our willingness to partner with them as they begin their mission in  Central America.  Add them to your prayer list and we'll keep you     informed about their needs and answers to prayer.  To God be the glory.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Tuesdays, August 10th and August 24th

             Pastor Bob Norton is currently talking and praying with men in our fellowship who would like to participate in the Leadership     Training to become candidates for Elders and Deacons.  As we move toward particularization(transitioning from a mission church to a full-fledged PCA congregation) we will need to have our own Session(Ruling Elders) and Deacons to carry on the work of the ministry.  The biblical qualifications are found in Titus and 1 Timothy 3.  Men of godly character and wisdom are needed to serve as our shepherd  leaders.  The current Steering Committee which has done an excellent job will then transition into other roles as the Session is complete later this fall.  It is a noble ambition to desire to serve God as an Elder or a Deacon.  May God be glorified as we journey through this important step in the life of our church.

     The Church of the Resurrection has already laid the foundation of prayer since it’s inception as a community planted by God.

     Quoting Pastor Bob: “It’s important to make sure that the real power of prayer is enhanced and completed each day, each week and through the year, so that the power of gods blessings can be felt in a real way by His people.”

     From God’s word, we have evidence of His yearning to be the center of our lives so that we may know his hesed (tender) love for us.

     There is always room for growth in our prayer life, both personal and as the body of Christ.  I’m excited about having a part in our development as a people of prayer.

     On May 16, we dedicated our new Prayer Room, a place where we can sit quietly in God’s       presence or join with a small group for praise, thanksgiving and petition.  “Let us exalt His name together”….Psalm 34:36
